Self Care As Divine Care

May 9, 2019

Hello Friend,

Did you know that last week was Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week? I knew…though I admit I did not fully realize it until the latter part of the week. As you know, I am a passionate advocate for seeking help and care when necessary during these years of being a young mother. When you should be so happy enjoying your child/ children, the Enemy is constantly at work trying to usurp the household God has given you. With Mother’s Day coming up in a day or two, I wanted to give you a bit of encouragement in the area of self-care as divine care.

Take care my friend, for the days and nights of a mother are long and tiring. With little sleep and the never-ending demands of your family, your mind and body can grow weak and tired. Why is it that mothers are so good at putting everyone else’s needs before their own? Well, I can give you a very Biblical reason for that. However, I want to give you another sort of Biblical advice.

It’s okay to take care of yourself.

The Bible says so.

The Lord says in Ephesians 2:10

”For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

~Ephesians 2:10 NKJV

In this scripture we see that the Lord created us to do His good works. He doesn’t want us to be tired and sick because then we wouldn’t be able to do anything at all. Instead, we should be good stewards of our minds and bodies so that we can be in good form. 1 Peter says:

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace…”

~ 1 Peter 4:10

You were given the gift of a strong body and a sound mind so that you could serve the Kingdom of God. It’s important that we be a good steward of these gifts and take care of what He has given to us. Lastly, don’t be afraid to rest. The Lord encourages us to rest, and wants us to lean on Him when we are fatigued.

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

~ Matthew 11: 28-30 NKJV

You see, self-care isn’t about “self” at all. IT’S DIVINE CARE! In caring for yourself, you are making yourself able to care for others…which is the good work that God has set before all of us! Dear Mama, my prayer for you this Mother’s Day is that you take some time to rejuvenate yourself spiritually, physically, and mentally. Schedule that doctor’s appointment you have been meaning to get to. Start a new work out, or vitamin regimen to increase your energy levels. Buy a new outfit or do your hair. Drink some WATER! Most importantly, rest in Jesus by taking the time to pray and thank Him for blessing your journey as a Mom.

HAVE A BLESSED MOTHER’S DAY EVERYONE!
